Your Post-Labor Day Lift for Fall 2019

Screenshot these moves + find some good tunes bc you're 6 minutes away from a better rear.

Order a Bosu ball or similar (I love this ball because it's inexpensive and light gray, blending with my home decor way better than the standard bright blue Bosu ball).

Set a timer on your phone for 2 minutes. When it passes, skip the song and change to the next move.

  • Move 1 x 2 min / Song 1 (Rec: "Big Booty" by JLo and Iggy Azalea)
  • Move 2 x 2 min / Song 2 (Rec: "Bootylicious" by Destiny's Child)
  • Move 3 x 2 min / Song 3 (Rec: "Ms. Fat Booty" by Mos Def)

This one is a good starter because it's basically your standard squat, except on a destablized base. Not only does it challenge you to get low, but it also forces you to try to stay level - working those muscles on the outside of your upper legs.

*GOOD TIME FOR A DISCLAIMER:

If you haven't already figured it out based on my extremely scientific vernacular, I'm not a licensed personal trainer, and therefore I'm not advising on proper form, exact muscle groups, or anything cool like that. I'm an average girl trying to work out a little. Screenshot my stuff if you're like me and remembering 47 reps of 326 different moves tends to be challenging...

Have you noticed Guapa the cat in the basket in the background?

Ok, this next one is the hardest...

As an average runner who totally neglects core and strength training, these moves were TOUGH on my first try! My thighs and glutes were screaming. But, because these moves are so SIMPLE and versatile, I can honestly see myself sticking with them.

Building muscle in your lower body and core is important to keep your back healthy--whether you're running miles, running errands, working, holding babies, surfing, yoga...or doing whatever you do. For the past few years, I wasn't building my core, and I've paid for it (I'll be posting soon about recent lower back problems and physical therapy adventures.  #thisis30..31...whatever).

Now that summer's over, let's give our bums some tlc. My goal is to do this every morning before coffee for at least the next 6 months (March). If you're feeling extra motivated and want fresh air, bonus points for heading outside with your ball and Revelrea hat. You can also modify for travel.

That's it. Happy perking!
